Hey Gorgies!
We are often asked what the difference is between Oligo Calura Permanent Hair Colour Level 8 and Calura Permanent 8 Ultra. So, we thought we’d break it all down for you!
8 Ultra as a series can be seriously misunderstood and underestimated, but we’re here to give it the credit it deserves and give you multiple options to utilise it with your clients when you’re formulating! We’re talking coverage with attitude!
If you want to achieve lighter, brighter blondes with 100% white hair coverage and feel like you lose the coverage when you go into levels 9 & 10…You may be missing out on a true hero…
The 8 Ultra Series is taking centre stage!
Offering up to 4 levels of lift on natural hair, as well as 100% white hair coverage, the 8 Ultra series was designed to help you create your best blondes yet!
Features & Benefits:
Provides superior lifting of natural hair and 100% white coverage in one step
8 Ultra shades are Intermixable with all of Calura Permanent Shades (Except the 12 Pure Blonde Series), follow the 8 Ultra developer and mixing instructions!
Contains Anti-breakage and hair-strengthening properties
Best used on levels 4 – 7

Developer on level 4-5 = 12%/40vol
Minimum of 30% -100% white hair

Can be used with 6%/20vol on fine hair, but consider the condition and starting level!
So, what’s the difference between Level 8 Calura Permanent and the 8-Ultra Series, I hear you ask?

Calura Permanent level 8 provides a fuller saturation or a darker blonde result.
8 Ultra provides a lighter, softer blonde result. This series not only offers white hair coverage but also enhanced lift on natural hair, so it essentially gives you a level 8 ½!
What is the Anti-Breakage and Hair Strengthening Complex?
Now obviously, when we’re lifting the hair, we are going to be potentially compromising the hair’s inner and outer structure, which is where this innovative complex comes in!
The complex is composed of small molecules, hydrolysed vegetable protein, and large molecules, PG – Silanetriol (water-based silicone).
The smaller molecules penetrate the hair cortex, regulating the moisture levels and strengthening the hair's inner structure.
The large molecules protect the scalp and hair's outer layer, preventing cuticle damage and loss of lipid content during the hair colour process.
This is also another key difference between Calura Permanent level 8 and the 8 Ultra series.
Both contain the iconic Exothermic Technology, but only the 8 Ultra series contains the Anti-breakage and strengthening complex!
So let's take a closer look at the shade options we have available in the 8 Ultra series!

8U Neutral
Made up of equal parts of our primary colours, blue, red and yellow, this is a true representation of a balanced, soft neutral on 100% white hair or slightly warmer results on 50% white hair (or less). It can be used alone or mixed with other tones in the range to achieve the most natural result.
8U-12 / 8U-AI
Made up of 60% Blue and 40% Violet, this shade offers sandy, bright and cooler results and helps eliminate warmth when lifting.
8U-36 / 8U-GV
Made up of 70% yellow and 30% Violet, this shade offers the perfect balance of gold without being too overpowering, thanks to the Violet. On 70% to 100% white hair, it achieves a bright, beige result and is a great option for porous hair to avoid too cool results.
8U-3 / 8U-G
Made up of 100% yellow, this is the warmest option in the series and reflects the most amount of light for high luminosity with coverage. On 70% to 100% white hair, it will achieve a soft, golden blonde and is great for finer hair.

So not only do we have the ability to achieve level 8, softer, more luminous blondes… there's more!
8 Ultra has a little Sidekick, for the brightest and purest blonde results!
Drumroll please……
BLONDING CREAM
RECOMMENDED | % Of BC | DEVELOPER |
Pure Blondes Series (12) | 25% | Follow developer mixing ratio and application instructions |
Shade Levels 6 -10 | up to 25% |
Blonding Cream provides up to one more level of lift on natural hair when intermixed with shade levels 6-12. It’s not recommended for pre-lightened hair or to be used alone, but it can be used with all Calura shades and developers and is an asset when it comes to using the 8 Ultra series.
Don’t get Clear and Blonding Cream confused!
Although they both look the same in the shade selector, they have different qualities and uses, so bear that in mind when you’re formulating!
Blonding Cream is an additive to increase lifting power and contains the same anti-breakage and strengthening complex as the 8 Ultra Series. It’s not exclusive to the 8 Ultra series and can be used with levels 6-12 for one more level of lift.
Clear is formulated differently and can be used to dilute tones and level, rather than increasing lift!
So, always ask yourself, do I want one level more lift, or do I want to dilute the level and tone?! This makes the choice simpler and guarantees flawless results, every time!
What’s also handy to know is that all this information is on the back of the appropriate page in the shade selector, and this makes it easier to navigate when you’re formulating!
8 Ultra Series + Blonding Cream = THE DREAM TEAM!

Achieve exceptional results for your white hair clients who want a high-level blonde!
Are you ready to be an 8 Ultra Series Stylist?! If not, why not!
Consider 8 ultra as a blonding diva! You will still have a level 8, but it is different, unique and offers capabilities beyond Calura Permanent’s existing level 8.
Both live in the space of a level 8, both offer 100% white coverage, both lift natural hair up to 4 levels depending on the developer chosen, but they offer a difference in depth and lifting capabilities.
Handy Tips when using 8 Ultra
· The higher % of white hair present = A lighter, cooler result, depending on the shade selected
· The lower the % of white hair present = A deeper, warmer result will be achieved.
· The warmer shades in the 8U Series are ideal for 70% to 100% white hair, the 8U Neutral or cooler shades are perfect for 30% to 50%.
· Calura Permanent Mix tones can be used to increase tonal control if your client's white hair % is low, or their natural level is below a level 6.
· 8 Ultra is not only great for root applications on natural hair, but as a lowlight on lighter hair to add definition.
· All of the 8U series is intermixable with one another, and with the Calura Permanent shades, to help tone down or give the best results on fine and porous hair.
· 8U Series can be used on damp hair to base break when achieving white hair blending and camouflage, when processed for up to 20 minutes. For more coverage, it’s best on dry hair for the full 45 mins.
So, do you see why the 8 Ultra series is so underestimated?!
Now the question is…
