Hey Gorgies!

As promised, here are some intermixing inspirations, used by Oligo Technical Advisors and fellow hair stylists.

For the Freehanders:

  • When it comes to free-hand techniques, you’ll never choose another mix again!

  • 75% Blacklight Clay Lightener + 25% Blacklight Cool Blonde or (3/4 + 1/4)

  • Mix Ratio 1:2 (otherwise it’s too thick in consistency!)

  • You can also follow the 70%/30% rule if you find it easier to formulate!

  • This will effectively give you more lifting and toning power in your Clay Lightener, therefore, you may be able to use a lower developer compared to using the Clay Lightener alone.

  • When mixing with Blacklight Extra Blonde or Cool Toned Lighteners, use up to 30% Blacklight Clay Lightener to maintain faster lift speed.

For Cool Blonde Results:

  • Intermix Cool Toned with Extra Blonde to create a lighter, cooler blonde result.

  • You can follow the 70%/30% rule, or mix 50% of each, and mix 1:1

  • This will give you a fast lift and added toning at the same time.

  • I love this combo mixed 50/50 for free-handing short hair!

For Creamy Blonde Results:

  • Mix Cream Lightener + Extra Blonde to give you more lift than with Cream Lightener alone, but with a creamier, nourished result.

  • You can follow the 70%/30% rule, or mix 50% of each, and mix 1:1

  • This will give you a more controlled lift with added hydration and tone at the same time.

For Sensitive Clients:

  • Cream Lightener can be intermixed with other lighteners to provide hydration, toning and more lift on sensitive scalps for damage-free, spectacular results.

  • For optimum lift with added hair and scalp protection, mix equal parts (50%+50%) of your chosen Blacklight Powder with Blacklight Lightening Cream using a 1:1 mix ratio. (Depending on the individual, up to 1- 2 levels of additional lift can be achieved)

  • Cream Lightener is also a gentle way to add tip-outs to your foiling service, used alone or intermixed!

  • Don’t forget – if you’re dealing with a particularly sensitive client or are doing a scalp bleach application, you can use Oligo Scalp Protector in your mix as well without having to account for this in your formulation!

Top Tips:

  • If you’ve over-toned or want minimal colour removal, use Extra Blonde for a decolourising application. (equal parts of lightener, water, 3 or 6% (10 or 20 volume) Smart developer and 5ml of clarifying shampoo)

  • We always recommend using a maximum of 20vol/6% on the scalp

  • When intermixing with Extra Blonde, always remember that 40vol/12% isn’t recommended for this lightener, even if the product you’re mixing it with is!

  • If you notice a layer of oil when you open Cream Bleach, give it a mix before weighing it out for your formula!

  • You can customise your lifting in different areas to increase the strength of your chosen lightener where needed and reduce the strength around the nape and hairline.

If you’ve stuck with me this far…Thank you!

I hope that this has brought you some serious clarity on how and why intermixing can change your blonding game!!
